A 25-year-old man, Bashar Haruna, has been arrested for rape. It was alleged that he raped his 11-year-old niece in Bauchi. Also arrested for raping the same primary four pupil victim was a 55-year-old man.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Kamal Abubakar, confirmed the incident to Northern City News in Bauchi on Sunday. He also confirmed that the police had arrested both suspects as well.
Mr Abubakar said the police received information about the crime on June 16, 2019. And they swung into action and successfully arrested the suspects immediately.
Abubakar, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, told Northern City News, “Yes, I can confirm to you that the incident is true.
“On June 16, 2019, around 1.55pm, we received information from a complainant. One Abubakar Haruna, 43, of the Sabuwar Kasuwa area of Bauchi metropolis. He said that on the said date, around 10am, he left his shop for his house.
“On reaching his house, he found his younger brother, Bashar Haruna, 25, and his niece in a suspicious setting. Upon interrogation, he discovered that Bashar had molested his niece.”
The PPRO said after receiving the report, the police swung into action and arrested the said Bashar.
According to him, further investigations led to the arrest of one Isah Sule, 55, of Sabuwar Kasuwa. The 11 year old victim had also accused Sabuwa of sexually harassing her. She said he did it on several occasions. The police promptly traced Sule, and immediately arrested him.
Abubakar stated that the case is currently being investigated, and the suspects will be charged to court subsequently.
Another Suspect Arrested For Rape
This news comes on the heels of another rape incident, this time in Cross River state.
Just a fortnight ago, Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hafiz Inuwa, disclosed that the police had arrested a new rape suspect. According to him, one Mr. Edet James Asuquo had raped a 13 year old girl. It didn't end there, as he also infected the victim with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
The commissioner said Asuquo, who had no fixed address, and whose age he did not disclose had been charged to court.
