Caitlin Fladager,a Canadian mum says weed makes her a better mum to her two kids. She argues that weed is no different from wine for relaxing

For some time now there has been talks and arguments about legalising weed in Nigeria. Since 2018 weed has been completely legal in Canada. According to NHS, for some people, weed makes them relaxed and happy, while others may feel confused and anxious. Interestingly, a Canadian mother says weed makes her a better mum to her two young children. Caitlin Fladager, a 23-year-old, insists that weed gives her a ‘clear mind’ and ‘lets her wake up rested.’ Caitlin has struggled with anxiety and depression, but she has noted some mental health benefits of smoking weed.

Caitlin is a writer and mental health advocate, with 286,000 Instagram followers. She has used her platform to advocate for mental health in the past, and now she uses it to tell people to let mums who want to relax by smoking weed do it in peace without making them feel like they’re doing something wrong. After all, many mums relax with a glass of wine after a long day and no one sees it as unacceptable.

She took to her Instagram and posted a photo of herself enjoying her weed. She wrote that indeed she is a mother with two kids and she smokes weed every day. It’s funny to her how marijuana is frowned upon. No one looks twice when a mom says she enjoys ‘mom juice’ aka wine after her kids are in bed. But when a mom says she smokes weed, it’s a huge shock. Caitlin says she talks about this to bring awareness. She feels that not enough people talk about this. Marijuana has helped her so much, especially when it comes to being a mom.

Furthermore, Caitlin maintains that it’s okay to smoke weed after your kids have gone to bed. It’s okay to smoke weed to help with anxiety since it has helped her fight hers. Additionally, she has been dangerously underweight and weed has helped her put on some weight. Now she is at the healthiest she’s ever been. Caitlin used to drink and didn’t like the behaviour that came with it. Weed helped her stop drinking and she prefers weed over drinks. Marijuana is her glass of wine. You can still be an excellent mum and smoke weed.

What Other Mums Had To Say About It

Caitlin is known for her bold approach to social issues. After her latest post, other mums have shared their experiences, grateful for her honesty.

One mum wrote:

“I smoke weed to help with anxiety/depression plus I have problems trying [to] eat a lot so it definitely helps with that. I’ve gotten a lot of negative reactions for being a mom that smokes weed, even from people who either used to smoke before they had kids or they judge me when they are turning to far worse life-ruining drugs. Thank you for speaking up and bringing awareness about this.”

Another commented:

“Yaasssss! I’m a mom who smokes, and this is why I don’t post about it due to all the shame I’d get. I smoke because it helps me sleep, and helps my anxiousness calm down after a long day! We should not feel ashamed for it, even though it’s so hard not to. I admire you so much for posting about this! #endthestigma.”

Even though Caitlin has said that taking weed calms her down and helps with her anxiety, it might be a totally different outcome for someone else.

Questions around weed have been growing in recent times – whether it’s good or bad for one’s health, especially for pregnant women and new mums. While it has been established by experts that a glass of wine every now and then can be considered safe, the same can’t be confidently said about weed. Studies have shown that weed affects the development of unborn babies and breastfeeding mums.
