The influence of Chimamanda Adichie is well known globally. Recently, she bagged another award and also made history. On the 20th of November, she received the UN Global Leadership Award. She is the first Nigerian and first African woman to receive this award.
Chimamanda Adichie Receives the UN Global Leadership Award
Among other global leaders, the United Nations Foundation honoured Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie for her work using literature and storytelling to connect with people across generations and cultures on issues of gender and racial equality and being a leader on the frontlines of global progress.
She shared her joy on her Instagram page with a picture which she captioned:
“I was honoured’ sometimes feels over-used-bordering-on-meaningless, but I truly was honoured to be honoured by @unfoundation. Inspiring to meet so many people on the frontlines of the real work on global issues. It means a lot to me that my work matters to these women and men who are pushing forward to make ours a world of dignity for everyone. And what a lovely evening – so many examples of women changing the world, AND a tasty vegetarian dinner!”
Chimamanda Adichie’s Work On Feminism And Gender Equality
Chimamanda Adichie, also fondly called CNA by her fans, is known not only for her literary prowess but for kickstarting necessary conversations on gender and feminism. Her TED talk, "We should all be feminists," has been viewed more than 5 million times, become a bestseller, turned into a fashion statement and featured on a Beyonce show.
Though her views may be considered controversial, she has also increased awareness of feminism through her books. Furthermore, she has successfully broken down theories into human stories that are easy to understand and relatable.
