Father remanded in prison for raping his teenage daughters

A father of two teenage girls has been remanded at the Kirikiri prison for raping his daughters. The man, Chukwuemeka Eze, has been locked up at the prison in Lagos based on the charges brought by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.

Eze, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, lives at Agbeke Close, Iyana-Era, Coker Bus Stop in Lagos. The charge against the accused was a two-count charge of defilement, and it was chaired by Justice Abiola Soladoye.

According to the prosecutor, T. Olanrewaju-Dauda, the defendant was accused of having sexual intercourse with his underage daughters aged 16 and 17 years old. Eze reportedly raped the girls between 2008 and 2017 at their family home. The heinous act was said to have begun after the death of the girls’ mother when the daughters were 7 and 8 years old.

The prosecutor had this to say about the rape:

“Eze defiled the girls while pointing a knife at them. He threatened to stab them if they told anyone,” Olanrewaju-Dauda said.

According to the prosecutor, there were eight witnesses willing to testify against the defendant during the course of the trial. She further suggested that Eze, who had attended the proceedings from home, be remanded in prison custody.

Justice Soladoye granted the wish of the prosecutor and ordered that Eze be remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons. The defendant will be there till Oct. 28, when the trial is scheduled to begin.

Eze, who wasn’t expecting to be remanded, broke down in court and asked the Judge to reconsider. He decried Justice Soladoye’s order and promised he wasn’t planning to run away from the law. Eze pleaded with the judge to let him go home to his children but the prosecutor was quick to remind the court that he was essentially begging to go back home to the girls he had been abusing sexually.

Eze’s defilement offense carries a life sentence according to Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of 2015.
