The world has taken notice of 12-year-old Fathia Abdullahi, who is the proud creator of a robot that can fold clothes in mere seconds. She has achieved this feat despite being a newbie at coding. She only started coding a year ago, when she was just 11 years old.

Fathia Abdullahi's creation meets a need

According to Fathia Abdullahi, she designed the robot because her weekends were filled with too many clothes to fold. So, her machine was supposed to come in handy when there were a lot of freshly-washed clothes to put away.

She had this to say about the prototype:

“I made the T-shirt folder because there are too many clothes to fold on Saturdays and Sundays when you wash a lot. I made it using some pins, some beams, and EV3 brick.”

“I started coding at the age of 11. I decided to build the robot because that’s the problem we have at home. We wash clothes and there are always lots of T-shirts to fold.”

Speaking on her motivation to create, she hopes her creativity will help her when she becomes a food scientist in the future.

“I’d love to be a food scientist when I grow up. I’ll be able to use coding to build so many things that would help me,’ she said.

Oluwatobilola Owolola is also using tech to better the lives of people around him. The young boy has created a robot that grabs things and takes the items to where they really need to be. He is working towards a future as a robotics engineer.

Nigeria’s future

Fathia and Oluwatobilola have proven that Nigeria’s future in tech ecosphere is secure. They have proven that with the right support, they can achieve so much more.
