2. Improperly cooked meat and fish
Meat and fish, if not cooked properly, is unsafe during pregnancy. So, you’ll include it in the list of foods to avoid in the first month of pregnancy. While fish and meat are very good for the fetus, uncooked ones are very bad.
According to the NHS, uncooked fish could have parasitic worms like anisakis, which could make the pregnant woman very sick. Although not all kinds of sushi will make you sick, you will do well to steer clear of it during pregnancy.
3. Processed food
Processed foods make life easier, but during early pregnancy, you will do well to eat whole food. Instead of canned fruits, buy fresh seasonal fruits from the market. Instead of bottled fruit juice, grab your blender and make yourself a nice smoothie. You want to cut down on sugar so you don’t increase the risk of gestational diabetes. Sugar can also lead to excessive weight gain.
It will be hard to completely remove sugar from your diet, but you can play safe if you eat it in moderation.
6. Unripe papaya
Ripe papaya is excellent for pregnancy, so don’t include as one of the foods to avoid in the first month of pregnancy. However, unripe papaya can be dangerous if an expectant mother eats it during pregnancy. It contains latex, which can cause miscarriages.
Eating unripe papaya can cause uterine contractions, leading to early labour in an expectant mother. You might want to stay away from green papayas to protect yourself and your baby.
7. Unwashed food
Dirty food can cause food poisoning. While it is good to eat well-cooked food, fruits and vegetables, make sure that whatever you put in your mouth enjoys a generous amount of scrubbing and rinsing. Dirty vegetables or improperly washed vegetable will contain not only sand and debris but parasites, too. Endeavour to maintain superb food hygiene in the first month of pregnancy.
