Sabrina Dhowre and Idris Elba chose to marry in Morocco because the bride and groom's families are from east and west Africa respectively.

Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre, who were engaged in February 2018, wed on Friday, April 26. The wedding was held at the Ksar Char Bagh hotel in Marrakech. The 29-year-old model opted for two custom-made gowns by Vera Wang, while the 46-year-old actor wore an Ozwald Boateng suit.

The celebrations were spread out over three days. The night before the wedding, guests were invited to a dinner with a “Colors of the Souk” theme at the Amanjena hotel. Idris Elba and Sabrina Dhowre then exchanged their vows on Friday at the Ksar Char Bagh hotel. After, they whisked their guests off to an all-white party at the Mandarin Oriental on Saturday April 27, 2019.

Somewhere in between” has proved to be the strength of this special relationship. The groom’s family hails from Sierra Leone and Ghana, the bride’s from Somalia. So they placed Africa at the heart of their romantic three-day wedding festival in Marrakesh.

No one will forget the three days they spent in balmy Marrakesh for this wedding. At the welcome celebration at the Amanjena hotel, guests were transported to a replica of the city’s Jemaa el-Fnaa square. As the sun went down, fire-eaters performed alongside acrobats and belly dancers. Come sunset the following evening, guests took their seats in the courtyard of the Ksar Char-Bagh hotel to watch the couple say their vows.

Elba waited for his bride in front of an altar of flowers as, hand-in-hand with her mother, she walked down the aisle dressed in a breathtaking custom-made Vera Wang gown.

The bride and designer worked together and exchanged ideas. “Sabrina is very confident with her body, and being so tall, she could carry a beautiful train,” explained Wang of the A-line crêpe dress with delicate Chantilly lace train. “And when she asked me to have Idris’s arm tattoo embroidered at the bottom of the train – ‘This train carries no wrong-doers’ – then I knew I was dealing with a very special woman, totally in love. It was her personal tribute to Idris.”

For dinner, Sabrina wore another bespoke Vera Wang dress, this time a figure-hugging number embroidered with shimmering crystals. As soon as the cake was cut, on came New Edition’s “Candy Girl”, and the dancefloor swung into action. A surprise performance from Afrobeats star Davido delighted the crowd, and the night ended with the groom behind the decks, joined by Sabrina and presenter Maya Jama singing along.

Another Day

The next day, the wedding party enjoyed an informal lunch by the Mandarin Oriental’s pool. That night, fireworks lit up the sky, concluding the celebrations, but no one was ready to leave – least of all the newlyweds, who were still revelling in the company of friends and family. “We want the guests to leave remembering the importance of love,” said Sabrina. “Behind all the glitz and the flowers, that’s what matters.”

Idris Elba As A Doting Dad

The wedding is Elba’s third. He previously married Hanne Norgaard, with whom he had a daughter, Isan Elba. And then to Sonya Nicole Hamlin. Elba also shares a son, Winston Elba, with British makeup artist Naiyana Garth.

The Dark Tower actor is not only a doting dad to his wonderful children but also loves children in general. He has featured in a cute little video. There, he takes some out of the box ideas from children about the best Valentine’s Day date. With his children, he is often seen spending quality time. Isan is the 2019 Golden Globe Ambassador, an esteem traditionally awarded to the child of a celebrity. The 16 year old is interested in film making and mental health advocacy.

In another interview for a magazine cover, he had also revealed how he fell in love with a woman from Florida and was thrilled when she was expecting until he came to know that the child was not his. He is quite emotional about the entire episode and feels that it has taught him a lot in life. He also feels that whatever goes around, comes around for sure and that this incident was a lesson of sorts.
