Femele University Undergraduate Dies After Being Hit By Drunken Driver

Social media users across the country are using #Justiceforjemima to demand justice for Jemima Anselm's death. Jemima is a 20-year-old student who died alongside her friend at Jos, Plateau state.

Jemima Anselm and her friend Jennifer had boarded a keke (commercial tricycle) to church. They were en-route when a drunk driver hit the tricycle. The keke driver died immediately. Jemima and Jennifer died later after hospitals refused to treat them unless they brought a police report.

Days after, Jemima's brother Anselm took to Twitter to cry out about the hapless way his sister died.

Anselm revealed that his sister and Jennifer passed away before they could get to another hospital. He also said the police were planning to release the drunk driver on bail. Ever since he shared the story, Nigerians came out on the platform, calling for justice for Jemima, Jennifer, and the keke napep driver.

Police spokesperson, Terna Tyopev told the press that they hadn't released the suspect Augustine Daniel. But Jemima's family says it's not true. They have accused the police of releasing the suspect on bail. But they have vowed to get justice for Jemima.

Tyopev said the suspect was arrested but taken to the hospital to treat his chest. Thereafter, he returned to police custody. His papers have also been prepared for court.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo (SAN) has promised to personally bring the matter to the attention of the authorities in Plateau state.

Jemima's elser sister Ochanya said the entire family is still in shock about her unfortunate demise. Ochanya explained that her little sister was one of the best students in her Statistics class.

"She was a bright girl since primary school and it was clear that her future was bright." But all that is over, thanks to the drunk driver's actions. She added that her mother is yet to accept that her lovely daughter is dead. The family is managing the situation because her mother is really traumatized.

Lots of social media users have taken to social media to express their indignation. They are also demanding justice using the #justiceforjemima hashtag. Many people think it is wrong for a hospital to refuse to treat an emergency accident victim because of the absence of their police report.
