Nigerian Man Attempts To Travel On Wings Of Local Airline
Fear and panic reigned supreme aboard a local flight in Nigeria’s commercial capital Lagos. It so happened that a certain man attempted to make the flight by sitting on the wings of the plane.
Passengers were aboard the Air Azman flight whose destination was the southeastern Rivers State capital, Port Harcourt. They were begging to disembark from the plane for fear of the unknown.
The official account said they saw the man trying to climb into an Azman Aircraft. He was waiting for clearance from Air Traffic Controllers.
The pilot of the plane reported the incident to the aviation security AVSEC officials, who in turn arrested the man. “The aircraft taxied back to the apron for a thorough check” and continued with its trip to Port Harcourt.
The Story According To A Passenger
In narrating the ordeal a passenger, Otto Orondaam, wrote the following account on Instagram: “How it happened!! So our flight was taxiing on the runway and about taking off when this man shows up running towards the moving aircraft from the bush.
“The pilot and a few passengers spotted him running towards the aircraft. So the pilot immediately slowed down and quickly put off the engine. The guy approaches the plane with gloves and starts walking around and under the aircraft holding a bag which he dropped inside the engine.
“Thanks to the Pilot of the Azman Airline for quickly observing and taking swift action.. I still have a million and one questions to ask cos anything could have gone wrong! Nigeria will work perfectly someday. This I know.”
In a further statement, aviation operator, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, called the incident a regrettable “air side incursion” and said it was probing the incident.
“Following the unfortunate air side incursion at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos today, July 19, 2019, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria ( ) has suspended indefinitely the Aviation Security unit heads who were on duty when the incident occured, pending completion of ongoing investigation into the regrettable security infringement,” a statement said.
The punishment affected four officers in total. They are the airport chief security and international terminal security chief. There was also the heads of two domestic terminals.
“The current arrangement will ensure an efficient and thorough investigation towards the recovery and sustenance of the airport’s proactive security integrity,” the statement added.
Do Your Kids Know These 3 Basic Safety Tips?
In the wake of situations like the above throwing everyone into jeopardy. It's important to teach your children a few safety tips that are age appropriate.
1) Be sure your child knows their first and last name. your phone number, and their home address.
This is important because if your child is ever separated from you, they need to know who they are, who you are, and how to get home.
2) Teach your kids about emergency numbers they can call for help.
Anyone can dial an emergency number from any phone. It's important to emphasize to your children that the number is only for emergencies. If an adult isn't available they can call for help. Children have saved their parents and themselves by being trained to call emergency numbers.
3) If a stranger approaches them, they should run to you or other people and tell you what happened.
A simple rule of thumb is that if someone says, "don't tell your parents!" Then the first thing they should probably do is tell their parents whatever it is. It's also important to listen to your child if they seem to be telling you that something is wrong. They need to know that you're a safe person to talk to.
