27-year-old Omotola Onayemi has died by suicide in Lagos. The sad incident was confirmed by the Police Command in Lagos State. Onayemi, popularly known as Ola-brain, is said to have killed himself after getting frustrated with his life.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Omotola Onayemi took his own life on Monday at 5:30 am. The incident occurred in Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Speaking to members of the press, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Epe Branch section of the Nigerian Police Force, Sgt. Ademola Ogunjobi, confirmed that the deceased had hanged himself on Monday at dawn. According to him, the NPF is aware of the tragic incident.

The DPO had this to say about the Omotola Onayemi suicide incident:

“The deceased was found a few hours after he hanged himself. His remains have been deposited in the morgue of the Epe General Hospital. Right now, we are proceeding with investigations into the case,’’ Sgt. Ogujobi said.

An eyewitness account of the incident

Mr. Tunde Badmus, one of the first persons who discovered the deceased’s body, told NAN that the suicide happened near Idi-Aba in Epe. Mr. Badmus’ eyewitness account has it that Onayemi died by suicide early Monday morning. He also alleged that the deceased was once an internet fraudster, also known as Yahoo Boy, until his mother disapproved of his cyber-criminal activities.

“He was frustrated that life after his Yahoo Boy days wasn’t going so well. I think he got frustrated by his stagnancy and decided to end his life,” Mr. Badmus told NAN.

“Everyone was surprised to see that he hanged himself on Monday,” Mr. Badmus continued.

Onayemi’s corpse was still at the mortuary as at the time of this report.
NAN reports that the deceased mother, who is a widow declined comments as she was still in shock.
