You’re probably a fan of french fries or boiled potatoes and that’s great. However, it’s only fair that you know the full potential of this starchy crop beyond the kitchen. Try using a potato face mask to get rid of wrinkles, age spots and lighten dark patches.

Russet, red, and yellow potatoes are few of the various other species discoverable globally. Rich in vitamin K, Thiamin, Folate, Calcium, Potassium, Sodium, Zinc as well as other important nutrients, the potato crop makes a great ingredient for both skin and hair care.

‘How’, you might ask, ‘can this crop improve my skin and hair?’

  • Skin lightening

Ever wondered how to achieve lighter skin without bleaching? Think, potato. A one hundred per cent natural skin lightening agent.

To achieve this, some work will be required of you: grate or crush a quarter of a medium-sized potato. After doing this, collect the paste (which can be enhanced by adding a few drops of tea tree oil, a spoon of honey, or half a tablespoon of turmeric powder.

Apply the paste onto your face, darkened knuckles, armpits, or knees consistently for a month to achieve the desired effect. Usually, as early as a fortnight, results might be visible.

  • Potato Eliminates Dark Circles and Dark Spots

Dark circles are unattractive. Not only do they give off an air of general fatigue to the face, but they might also trigger low self-esteem.

Peel a raw potato and slice two large but thin pieces. Place a piece under each eye and leave on for half an hour or more. Afterwards, wash off the eye area with warm water. Keep at this procedure to achieve brighter-looking eyes.

  • Fine-tunes Wrinkles

Potato is also an anti-ageing agent as it actively slows down ageing effects on the skin.

Religious use of potato face mask will leave your skin looking young, glowing and fresh.

  • Potato is a Good Exfoliator

Exfoliation is an integral part of skincare and must not be skipped. Thankfully, the potato crop is a great exfoliating agent.

After washing your face with warm water and soap, Mix some granulated sugar (a tablespoon) or cinnamon into grated or crushed potato paste and apply on your face.

With your washed index finger, gently scrub your face in circular motions. Otherwise, make use of an exfoliating brush. After scrubbing, wash off face with water, then pat dry with cool water.

An advisable exfoliating procedure should be kept between twice to thrice monthly.

  • Serves as Moisturizing Agent

You’d be amazed to learn that potatoes also act as moisturizing agents. By simple mixing some yoghurt into potato paste and wearing it on your face for at least twenty minutes consistently, you’re sure to improve the moisture level of your skin.

This procedure works excellently for people with dry skin.
