Six men stand trial for allegedly stealing N30m worth of jewellery from a judge

Six suspects were arraigned on Wednesday for allegedly breaking into the house of a judge and making away with N30 million worth of jewellery. The police arraigned the men in a Magistrates’ Court in Igbosere, Lagos State.

The six suspects

The six suspects in the case are 20-year-old Achrigbo Sunday, 59-year-old Mujaudu Alawiye, 23-year-old Emmanuel Frank, 28-year-old Akintunde Jude, 52-year-old Boniface Nneji and 18-year-old Adeniji Bashir. The police presented the charges of four counts of conspiracy, breaking and entering, and theft.

The charges against the six suspects

Inspector Edward Abiodun, who led the prosecution counsel, presented the case to the court. While addressing the court, he mentioned that the six suspects carried out the offence in Ajah, Lagos State, on May 28. Inspector Abiodun also said that on the date mentioned above, the defendants allegedly committed the offence of breaking and entering when they went to Justice Mariam Emeya’s house and carted away jewellery valued at N30 million.

The stolen items

Inspector Abiodun listed the stolen items to include gold chains, gold rings, pendants, four sets of gold bangles, and many more. He alleged that by committing the offence, the defendants went against the provisions of sections 287, 307 and 411 of the 2015 Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The presiding magistrate, O.O Oshin granted Alawiye and Nneji bail in the sum of N100, 000 each. For Frank, Sunday, Bashir and Jude, bail was set at N300, 000 each.

The case has been adjourned until July 3.
