Beauty and Brains… and Books

That is a killer combination to love and Zozibini Tunzi has it. The 26-year-old is an avid reader and lover of books, all thanks to her grandma. “The first book I ever picked up to read belonged to my grandmother. She gifted it to me because I loved sitting on her lap pretending to read whenever she was doing it…,” Tunzi shared. “Till today, even with her horrible eyesight, you will never catch her without a book in her hand.
Because of her, I have a thirst for knowledge and a love for reading. She sparked a flame in me to always want to do more and to be more.” What’s not to love?

Second time’s the charm

She entered Miss SA twice and was a semi-finalist in 2017, the year in which Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters took home the Miss SA and Miss Universe crowns.

Of all the important national holidays we have in South Africa, heritage day is one of those that rank very high in my heart. It is so because of what it symbolizes. South Africa has had a very difficult past and yet today we are able to stand and celebrate our individualities, identities and rich culture together as South Africans. I plead though that this year's heritage day be extra special . I ask that we please open our hearts and extend our love and celebration of culture throughout the rest of Africa. We are one people after all. We are Africans. Happy Heritage Day maAfrika Amahle! A post shared by Zozibini Tunzi (@zozitunzi) on Sep 24, 2019 at 1:02am PDT

Not just a pretty face

When she won Miss SA, Zozi was completing her B.Tech at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. She previously graduated with an ND: Public Relations Management at the same institution.

Zozibini Tunzi Is Naturally beautiful

She chose to enter Miss SA with her natural hair as “a symbol of my firm belief in fair representation of any shape and form.” The beauty queen has said that she hopes to inspire people to be themselves at all times.

An advocate for change

She is using her voice to change the narrative around gender-based violence and even incorporated her passion around the subject into her Miss Universe national costume.

“I’m asking the people of South Africa to be part of the fabric of my Miss Universe National Costume by writing love letters that pledge support for the women of this country,” she captioned a recent Instagram post. “It is my hope that these pledges will start, and continue a conversation around gender-based violence. We have to start the narration where right-thinking people act as role models for those who think it’s okay to mistreat women.”

She’s a true role model

Zozibini Tunzi is exactly the kind of woman who young people across South Africa can look towards for wisdom and inspiration. She acts with integrity and her character has never been called into question during her short time in the public eye.

Zozi Tunzi Is the definition of chic

Elegant. Decadent. Opulent. We could go on forever, but Zozibini’s dress sense never misses a beat whether she’s on the red carpet or at a charity event.
