Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the National Universities Commission on Wednesday, August 7, uncovered three illegal higher institutions operating in Nigeria.
The NUC Director of Public Affairs, Ibrahim Yakassai revealed the list in an advert he signed. He released the names of the universities as: Nobel International Business School (NIBS) in Lagos. There is also Copperstone University, UPTA, USA in Bayelsa. FInally, there is Pathfinder University, Jos (College of Theology and Development Studies).
The Commission has said that it will not recognize the certificates obtained from these universities. Nor will the Commission accept its students in Nigeria for employment or further studies. It should be noted that the NUC gave the proprietors and promoters of the universities a one-month ultimatum. This was to close down their institutions and submit their notice of compliance. They could either do this or face the consequence of illegal operation.
Expensive University Now Justified?
The first university on the World University Rankings list is Covenant University, It also doubles as one of the most expensive universities in Nigeria. Does this mean that the high fees are justified? If so, why aren’t the other universities so highly ranked? How does a school justify its high fees without external recognition?
This list comes in spite of the dismal state of Nigeria’s educational sector, and the high rate of unemployment that plagues Nigerian graduates. We hope that this somehow boosts the quality of education in Nigeria. This is what Nigerians would really want.
